The initial releases of Soto Koto Music feature artists from the West African nation of the Gambia and highlights music from the Mandingo and Wollof cultures. The distinctive smile music known as Gumbay found it's way to America when slaves were brought to work in the plantations in the South. the rhythms they brought became the basis for Blues, Jazz, Soul and Rock & Roll.

Soto Koto distributes cassettes and compact discs in Africa and is building a recording and video production facility in the Gambia to further the mission of identifying, documenting and making available both the old and the new sounds of africa
